Local Club Hoping For Grant Of More Than A Million
Wildgoose Construction are investing time and expertise to help Sleetmoor United Football Club apply for a grant of over £1m from The Football Foundation.
If successful, the grant will support the build of a £750k floodlit 4G football pitch as well as brand new changing facilities, a community hall and other spaces that can be used commercially. This should enable financial stability over the longer term by generating sustainable income removing the reliance on player subscriptions, charity events, negotiating kit sponsorship and attracting donations.
Founded in 2016, Sleetmoor United brings together three teams - ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton Girls and Ladies and Leabrooks Juniors Football Club - to form a single club with a united vision.
In 2018, Sleetmoor founder Matt Wheatcroft, who is also Managing Director of local full-service marketing agency, Purpose Media, became involved with the club when his daughters started to play football and he started coaching a team.
Matt quickly realised that Sleetmoor had a massive shortage of facilities and a lack of grounds maintenance equipment. Drawing on his experience in business, he was able to offer his expertise of preparing business plans and applying for grant funding from The Football Foundation to help the Club.
To aid their application, Sleetmoor require feasibility plans, detailed construction drawings, and reports outlining the environmental, safety, health and community impact of the development.
Alfreton based Wildgoose Construction were happy to help.
Wildgoose is a family owned business, founded in 1896, with a £50m turnover. The company work in a variety of sectors including Commercial and Industrial, Care and Extra Care, Health Education, and Residential House Building.
Having listened to Sleetmoor’s aspirations, they quickly offered their expertise to provide construction and environmental impact reports as part of their corporate social responsibility strategy. From untilising their Project Managers, to accessing an architect with experience of similar projects, and engaging their Surveyors and Commercial Director, Wildgoose have given access to time and resource far beyond the knowledge base of Sleetmoor’s dedicated volunteers.
Commenting on behalf of Wildgoose, Executive Chairman Jonathan Wildgoose said;
“Wildgoose has been established for over 120 years and we are totally committed to helping our local community. Working alongside such an enthusiastic group of parents on a project that will benefit many people for many future generations is very much part of our company ethos and values.
“Beyond this it really was Matt’s passion for football, Sleetmoor and supporting our local community that impressed me and drew us to this project. It’s something we’re proud to support and we’ll see the impact for years to come.
“We will be delighted if our knowledge and advice helps secure the funding they need to achieve this vision.”
As part of their CSR strategy and commitment to support their local community Purpose Media also created the Sleetmoor FC vision and new branding.
Commenting, Matt Wheatcroft added;
“I hear many businesses talk about the importance of CSR, but rarely do I actually see the words turn into actions. With their knowledge and experience, Wildgoose will enable Sleetmoor to submit a compelling grant funding application which we hope will enhance the chances of being awarded the grant.
“It’s hard for us to put a monetary figure on the value of support Wildgoose are giving us. With their help we can move forward with a realistic and achievable plan but make our dreams a reality.
“As a result of their time commitment, the health of many young people will be improved through their enjoyment of sport and access to state-of-the-art facilities.”
