Make Sure You're Registered To Vote

22nd July 2019
News, Mansfield

All residents in Mansfield district will soon be receiving a form asking if the information that appears on the electoral register for their address is correct.

With the Police and Crime Commissioner election taking place in Mansfield district in May 2020, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they will be able to take part.

The forms will arrive at homes from Tuesday 23 July as part of the council’s annual voter registration canvass, which makes sure the electoral register is up to date.

If all the details on the form are correct, they still need to respond and can do this quickly and easily by text, online or by post. The contact details are all on the form.

If any changes are needed, this can be done online or by returning the form.

Anyone who is added to the form will not automatically be registered to vote and this will need to be done separately at www.gov.uk/registertovote once they have responded to the form.

Reminders will be sent out to those that do not respond before home visits are carried out in October and November. It is a legal requirement to provide the information requested and if you don't you could be fined £1,000.

The aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so. It is particularly important that anyone who has moved address recently looks out for the form and checks they are registered.

Hayley Barsby, Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer at Mansfield District Council, said: “To make sure you are able to have your say at future elections you must be registered to vote. To do this simply check the form and respond as quickly as possible.

"If you're not currently registered, we'll send you information explaining how to do this or you can just go online to apply to register at www.gov.uk/registertovote."
